Alexa Filipowski and Hugh T. Harrington are very proud to announce they have co-authored the first ever biography of Private Edwin Francis Jemison, the young Confederate soldier with the famous photograph.

The Boy Soldier: Edwin Jemison and the Story Behind the Most Remarkable Portrait of the Civil War is a project that was over 15 years in the making. It was published by Westholme Publishing Company of Yardley, Pennsylvania.

As many of our friends know Edwin (Eddie) F. Jemison spent several years in Milledgeville, Ga. The historic home where he lived has been preserved as have other sites that would have been familiar to him. A year after leaving Milledgeville Eddie joined the Confederate army and soon found himself in Virginia where a year later he was killed while attacking the strong Union position at Malvern Hill.

Research for this book has been a consuming passion involving untold hours. It has taken us down some very obscure byways as we discovered startling new information and sifted through great quantities of erroneous information, speculation and myth.
